Shopping for your travelers friends is not so easy! They like to collect memories, not things, so the best gifts for travelers are ones that will help them create those incredible memories. The perfect gift can help capture those memories, inspire future adventures, and make life on the road easier. Whether it’s a gift for a holiday or a special occasion, these ideas will make meaningful presents for your fellow world travelers.
I travel (and move) quite often, so having too many things is not ideal. Also, frequent travelers have a different understanding of price and value: I don’t think twice about buying a plane ticket for $600, but I can think for days about buying anything for more than $20. It doesn’t make sense, right? That’s why, if you know that your friend loves to travel, it may be hard to think of something perfect to get him/her.
What Gift Should You Choose?
Does your friend travel a lot for business? Does he or she go backpacking for weeks or goes to the beach every summer? Those are the first questions you will need to answer before you start looking for the perfect gift. If your friend goes for city breaks, he or she will never need a LifeStraw, like some travel list guides may recommend. In this article, I will focus on gifts that anyone going on a trip will need to pack. The gifts in the list below are necessary and the travelers actually use them.

Useful Gifts for People Who Love to Travel
A Portable Solar Charger
I have had this portable solar charger for several months now and it saved me many times! There’s nothing worse than running low on power when you need it the most. For travelers, this can be an extra headache if your ticket confirmations, directions, or translation apps. One time my phone died in the middle of Madrid and I had to just look for my hotel with no directions. This wouldn’t happen if I had this charger. Plus, you don’t need to remember to charge it overnight (but you can), you can just charge it from the sun! This charger can charge 2 phones fully and still not run out of battery! It is sturdy and really is perfect wherever your destination is.
Portable Bluetooth Speaker
A portable Bluetooth speaker makes it easy to watch movies when traveling, play music on the beach or throw a party. When you are looking for the speaker, it’s best to invest in a good quality one. No one wants to have a speaker that will die in an hour or has bad quality sound.
There are a lot of Bluetooth speakers you can choose from, but I highly recommend the Anker SoundCore as a cheaper option or a JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker as a more expensive option. The former has 24 hour playtime and has really great reviews on Amazon. I have the JBL Flip 4 and it has been amazing! (you can even submerge flip 4 underwater)
A Travel Adapter
In order to use your electronics in other countries, you will need an international travel adapter plug for different sockets. If you know that your friend will be going abroad soon, chances are they will need one of these! They might need more than one for all of the electronics we have nowadays!
A Travel Bag
I like to stay comfortable and stylish when I travel. Your friend would appreciate a cute update for their travel bag, everybody needs a new bag! I absolutely love the WOWBOX Duffle Bag: it has a sturdy thick canvas, genuine top cowhide leather, and strong metal hardware. It also has a comfy shoe and a laptop compartment.
If you like to have a travel backpack, I highly recommend the KAUKKO Laptop Daypack. It’s durable and comfortable, you can fit your laptop and clothing for a couple of days. If you are looking for a gift for someone who likes to go on weekend trips, this will be a perfect fit! And it comes in a variety of colors!
A New Travel Camera
Isn’t that what traveling is about? You want to remember all of the beautiful moments when you are having the time of your life. And the photographers aren’t always there. Don’t forget to grab your camera with you. I use a Canon 70D but it might be too much if you don’t take pictures as often.. Instead, you could get a cheaper model that will last you many more travels to come. I own both of these, and still use them both for different occasions. I’ve had the Nikon one for longer than 5 years.
Another great option is getting an action camera, something like a GoPro if you are planning to go zip-lining or snorkeling in one of the islands. You can get some really great underwater shots with these. I was really surprised when I found out that some action cameras like this one* have such high customer ratings for a low price. It’s worth checking it out!
This dehydrator makes the perfect gift for those that like long trips. You can dehydrate beef to make amazing jerky and not pay an arm and a leg for it. It also works well for many fruit and veggies to have with you in your backpack on a hike or on a plane! You can make your own trail mix with it!
This toiletry pouch looks awesome! I actually really want one of these! Keeping your toiletries organized is a must on trips and this is probably the best one I have found. It rolls up compactly, has 4 individual compartments and it looks super stylish!
A Travel Pillow
While travel pillows are pretty common, it is the perfect item to make your trips more comfortable. Whether you are in the car or in a tent this one is our favorite. It is flexible and easy to adjust so you’re not stuck with just the traditional half donut shape pillow.
Something Small, Like Jewelry
When you travel a lot, you can’t carry pillows and blankets and paintings with you. Something that will help your friend always keep you next to her is a bracelet or a necklace. I always wear a necklace my mom gave me and I feel close to her even though I travel half the world away. Looking for something more useful? No problem! Look for a piece of jewelry or a watch that your world traveler can have with him or her every day!
Digital Luggage Scale
Airline baggage fees are so expensive! Some budget airlines charge you for everything and anything and can get picky if you have an extra pound in your bag. If you use this portable suitcase scale, you will know exactly how much you have in your carry-on or your luggage. This way, you can pack your bags to the maximum weight limit every time without going over. This little gift can potentially save your traveler a lot of money in fees or save them from an embarrassing situation of unpacking and leaving their things out at the gate.
A Gift for Traveler Away from Home
When I travel, I miss home. Sometimes when I am feeling homesick, there could not be a better gift than something that reminds you of home or of the place you miss.
Another idea! Do you know what’s their favorite destination? Use that as an inspiration for your perfect gift!
A Travel Gift Card
What could be better for someone who loves to travel than a gift of travelling? Give them an Airbnb or a Hotels.com gift card to make their next trip more possible! You can spend as much or as little as you can and it will help them do what they love doing the most – go on new adventures and collect even more amazing memories!
